David de Gea says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had ‘massive impact’ at Manchester United

David de Gea considers Manchester United have improved since last season and says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had a»huge impact» in Old Trafford.
Before being made supervisor in March, solskjaer won 14 of his 19 games in charge, but the form of United tailed off and they ended the prior campaign in sixth position – 32 points behind winners Manchester City.
However, despite having a relatively indifferent start to this year, De Gea – who signed up a new long-term contract – says the Norwegian has the entire backing of everyone in the club.
«From the moment he came here he demonstrated his faith in me, directly from moment one,» the Spain international told United’s official website.
«I think he had a enormous impact with this team. I believe we won 11 or 10 games on the rebound. Everyone has faith in himthat’s the thing.
«The fans are behind him and he is a supervisor who understands the club really well and the men and women who work here and I guess that’s essential.
«He also shows a lot of confidence from the younger gamers, which will be important for us and so he’s a really wonderful manager.»
Last year was United’s worst defensively since the Premier League started, conceding 54 goals and keeping only seven blank sheets – than Huddersfield and simply relegated Fulham.
De Gea has equalled this tally this year with wins over Leicester and Chelsea, and he considers that the progress is equally clear although two of those came at Old Trafford.
«We’ve improved a lot . We’re conceding fewer targets than last year,» he further added.
«Last year we’re letting in a lot of goals, but we are defending better and from there that the team is advancing.
«Of course, when you protect well, the team is likely to improve. We’ve got some amazing players up front and we all just have to keep on improving.
«The group is a lot more streamlined and from that base I think that the team is only going to get better, and we will be much more powerful and a more difficult team to beat.»
United keep their Premier League campaign against West Ham on Super Sunday, live on Sky Sports Premier League.
