Daniel Ricciardo reserved special praise following heading the team’s best result because their full yield at Monza.
Ricciardo maintained his highest finish since joining the group while team-mate Nico Hulkenberg matched his best ending for Renault following a Italian GP weekend where their car consistently ran at the top six with fifth.
When Fernando Alonso won the race and Nelson Piquet Jr completed fourth the result represented the greatest two-car finish for a works Renault squad because the 2008 Japanese GP.
Before joining the Enstone team at the beginning of the year, ricciardo, who ran Renault power, said the success was deserved by the manufacturer engine performance.
«Obviously I’m happy for the whole group, but I need to give a special shout from the boys at Viry constructing the engines,» said Ricciardo into Sky Sports F1’s Karun Chandhok.
«To find the best group result, here in Monza on a power circuit, since 2008 is a true announcement. They copped a lot of grief and they have made some gains this year on the energy unit. This one’s for these.»
The large 22-point haul from Monza can function to kickstart what up to then had been an amazing season. Renault have proceeded forward of Toro Rosso into fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship and closed to within 18 points of McLaren in fourth.
«Because Canada we hadn’t got the most result from this,» said Ricciardo, who stopped a three-race run with no points.
«I believe we were a fourth-placed automobile now. Seb (Vettel) gave us a small help, but after we had been in fourth I definitely feel we had that pace.»
Asked if they can now maintain such a level of performance, Ricciardo responded:»I actually wish we could and hope we could.
«We are coming around various circuits – high-downforce Singapore, street circuit, bumpy – but in spite of the fact that this is Monza and it’s exceptional and you take all of the wing off, I certainly think there’s something we can nevertheless learn from this.»
Team manager Cyril Abiteboul explained the weekend as»a demonstration after Montreal and Spa the obvious improvement of the team and in particular on the energy unit side that has been so openly criticised previously».
«It is a demonstration that everything is so fluid using an aggressive package,» added the Frenchman. «It is also an invitation to repeat these kinds of emotions, when our period has been far from a smooth ride so far. Our drivers have shown what they can do with a competitive car.»
