Daniel Ricciardo says Renault made engine ‘statement’ at Italian GP

Daniel Ricciardo reserved special praise for Renault’s engine division following heading the team’s best result since their entire yield to F1 at Monza.
Ricciardo maintained his greatest finish since joining the group whilst Nico Hulkenberg matched his best end for Renault with fifth.
When Fernando Alonso won the race and Nelson Piquet Jr ended fourth the outcome represented the highest two-car end for a works Renault squad since the 2008 Japanese GP.
Before joining the Enstone group at the start of the year ricciardo, who also ran Renault electricity, stated the maker’s often-criticised engine performance deserved the success.
«Obviously I am happy for the entire group, but I wish to give a special shout from the boys in Viry building the engines,» said Ricciardo into Sky Sports F1’s Karun Chandhok.
«To find the best team consequence, here in Monza on an energy circuit, because 2008 is a real announcement. They copped a lot of grief throughout the last few years and they have made some big gains this season on the power unit. This one is for them.»
The large haul from Monza can also function to kick-start what up to then had been an amazing season. Renault have proceeded into fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship ahead of Toro Rosso and closed to within 18 points of McLaren.
«Since Canada we hadn’t got the maximum result from this,» explained Ricciardo, who stopped a three-race run with no points.
«I actually believe we had been a fourth-placed vehicle today. Seb (Vettel) gave us a tiny help, but after we were in fourth I feel we had that pace.»
Asked when they are now able to maintain such a level of performance, Ricciardo replied:»I actually wish we could and hope we can.
«We’re coming up to distinct circuits – high-downforce Singapore, street circuit, tough – but in spite of the fact that this can be Monza and it is unique and you take all of the wing away, I definitely think there’s something we can nevertheless learn from that.»
Team boss Cyril Abiteboul explained the weekend as»a demonstration after Montreal and Spa the very obvious progress of the team and specifically on the energy unit side that has been so publicly criticised in the past».
«It is a demonstration that everything is so fluid with an aggressive package,» added the Frenchman. «It is also an invitation to replicate these kinds of emotions, when our period was far from a smooth ride so far. Our drivers show what they can do with a competitive car.»
