The 2019 World Grand Prix is merely a few days away and the championship looks wide open. In needing to hit a double to start the leg, the structure of the important , has lent itself to lots of upsets through the years. This tournament is obviously loved by the Grand Prix winner. Needing to start Wade given his impeccable record onto these. Its a clich?? however he is a clutch player. Legs will slip from opposition from nowhere. Since his sons birth he appears to have become much more relaxed. His return to the Premier League saw him finish in third position.
He reached two semi-finals from the Matchplay and New Zealand Masters. He then followed up with his fifth largest PDC name of the year a month in the Players Championship in Barnsley. He arrives in Dublin in strong form and also with many happy memories . With a good enough draw I think Wade is marginally on the side at 25/1. As MVG well knows after his shock 2017 exit into the Scotsman, his first match against John Henderson is going to be no pushover. I will observe the Machine moving far in the 21, if Wade can get past that having some momentum behind him.
My next wager is MICHAEL SMITH (best cost 22-1). Certainly that major is just around the corner? He keeps knocking on the door at events that are large and youd think he will go all of the way later or sooner. It was another remarkable run in a major for the Bully Boy although he had been unlucky against Cross at the World Matchplay final. He had some disappointing early exits from the Players Championship at Barnsley a month which may be a factor behind his price. As Smith always seems to devote a run in the huge events, this does not disturb me, however.
His scoring power is sensational and if he could land his doubles at a speed he can beat anyone. He could be his own worst enemy sometimes and can be a frustrating player to see. He works himself up too much over missed opportunities which he carries to the leg instead of simply forgetting about it. Hes a joy to watch, when he is on song however.
Hes got a quarter of the draw also. Of course no matches are simple but a player of Smiths calibre should get then and Simon Whitlock Joe Cullen or even Ian White in his first two matches. I imagine he is more determined than ever before to finally win that major he deserves. He has all the ability on the planet and I dont doubt hell go on to acquire several personalities in his career. This week provides a ideal chance.
