Daniel Ricciardo says Renault made engine ‘statement’ at Italian GP

Following heading the group’s best result because their entire return at Monza, daniel Ricciardo reserved special praise for Renault’s engine division.
Ricciardo claimed his highest finish since joining the team, fourth, while team-mate Nico Hulkenberg matched his very best end after a Italian GP weekend where their automobile ran in the top with fifth for Renault.
When Fernando Alonso won the race and Nelson Piquet Jr finished fourth the result represented the highest finish for a works Renault squad because the 2008 Japanese GP.
Before linking the Enstone group at the start of the calendar year, ricciardo, who also ran Renault electricity for five years in Red Bull, said the achievement was especially deserved by the producer’s often-criticised engine operation.
«Obviously I’m happy for the entire team, but I wish to provide a special shout from the boys in Viry constructing the motors,» said Ricciardo to Sky Sports F1’s Karun Chandhok.
«To get the best team consequence, here in Monza on an energy circuit, since 2008 is a true announcement. They copped a lot of grief and they’ve made some gains this season. This one is for them.»
The large 22-point haul from Monza may also serve to kick-start what up to then was an season. Renault have moved into fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship forward of Toro Rosso and closed to within 18 points of McLaren at fourth.
«Because Canada we hadn’t really got the most result from it,» explained Ricciardo, who stopped a three-race run with no issues.
«I actually believe we had been a fourth-placed vehicle now. Seb (Vettel) gave us a tiny help, but once we were in fourth I definitely feel we had that speed.»
Asked if they are now able to maintain such a level of functionality, Ricciardo replied:»I really wish we could and hope we could.
«We are coming around unique circuits – high-downforce Singapore, street circuit, tough – but although this can be Monza and it’s unique and you take all the wing away, I definitely think there is something we can still learn from that.»
Team boss Cyril Abiteboul explained the weekend as»a protest following Montreal and Spa the crystal obvious improvement of the team and specifically on the energy unit side that has been so openly criticised previously».
«It is a demonstration that everything is so fluid using an aggressive package,» added the Frenchman. «It is also an invitation to replicate these types of emotions, when our season has been far from a smooth ride up to now. Our drivers show what they could do with a competitive vehicle.»
