The Monster Energy NASCAR Series heads to Las Vegas for the third race of the season, the Pennzoil 400, a 267-lap, 400-mile race held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which is situated only a couple km north of The Strip. The Las Vegas Motor Speedway is one of the most complete racing complexes in the world, including road courses, a 3/8 mile oval, a dirt trail and a state-of-the-art drag racing centre.

The game’s elite will be gunning their automobiles around each turn in hopes of winning the Pennzoil 400’s special championship buckle, instead of the habitual trophy. This twist can be pegged to the boxing traditions of the city.

The race takes place at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday, March 4, at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be televised by FOX.

This past year, Brad Keselowski was out front and pulling away, apparently led to victory in Sunday’s NASCAR race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Then suddenly a parts failure caused Keselowski to slow, letting Martin Truex Jr. to catch and pass him with 2 laps remaining in the Pennzoil 400. The victory was Truex’s first of the season and eighth of his career.

Jimmie Johnson holds the record for most wins at the track using four but he has not won the race. Matt Kenseth has three wins with his final.

Defending champion Brad Keselowski, Carl Edwards and jeff Burton have two wins each.

Roush Fenway Racing has the most team wins with seven but none because 2011 while Hendrick Motorsports has five wins but not one since 2010. Joe Gibbs Racing, Stewart-Haas Racing and Team Penske have two wins each.

In terms of manufacturer wins, Ford has nine wins in Las Vegas while Chevrolet has seven while Toyota has two and Dodge has one.
