How Baseball Works
If you know nothing about baseball, the fundamentals are easy enough to understand. You’ve got two teams with 9 players on each team. While the defense and the field play the offense bats.
The group that’s batting tries to hit on the ball when the defensive team’s pitcher throws it. He runs around the foundations, In the event the batter succeeds. His goal is to get to home base.
The defense can stop the offense from running round the bases in a variety of ways. The simplest way is for the pitcher to strike the batter out. If a batter misses 3 pitches in his turn , he is out. When a team has 3 outs, the teams switch sides–the offense takes the field, and also the defense has their turn at bat.
The shield can also get a batter out by catching the ball after the batter hits it. Before he reaches on a foundation, or they could tag a player. (The defensive player has to have the ball to tag the player out.)
When each team has had a turn at batting along with a turn at fielding, that is an inning. A baseball game lasts for 9 innings, unless they go into extra innings. This happens when there’s a tie. Unlike soccer, there’s no clock in baseball. The match lasts until there is a winner.
