Even the New Orleans Pelicans ended 14 games under .500 last year, but the 2014-15 effort should see them vault over the break-even mark.
That is a significant improvement, though it’s as much a statement about the franchise’s rotten luck a year past as anything else. Jrue Holiday and ryan Anderson missed portions of the year with back and knee injuries, respectively. Eric Gordon and anthony Davis lost time.
Better fortune on the injury front, along with the huge inclusion of Omer Asik at the center, should propel the Pelicans as they grow into a group worthy of Davis’ existence. This year marks a critical landmark for the organization along with Your Brow.
The Pelicans should now move themselves into the postseason conversation though not a championship-caliber squad:

Whether they’ve enough to actually get there is a different conversation, and it’s difficult to point to one team out of last year’s playoff harvest that’s likely to drop out. However, if Davis is as good as he is likely to be and everyone else stays relatively healthy, they’ve got a opportunity.
The Pelicans are building a skyscraper, and it would probably be wise to get in on the ground floor.
