Giants QB Daniel Jones not bothered by New York boos

New York fans at a Yankees baseball game booed Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones when he appeared on the board Monday.
For his part, the hullabaloo was disregarded by the first-year signal-caller on Tuesday.
«I certainly do not pay a whole lot of attention to it,» Jones told Eisen when asked about the boos. «You’re aware of it. I’m focused on what we’re doing here and focused on trying to clinic as well as I could these past six months and reveal some progress over these fourteen days. So, at the end of the day, I’m thankful to be part of the franchise, get this chance and looking forward to keeping it moving.»

When talking potentially including a rookie QB behind Eli Manning, GM Dave Gettleman noted that such a person must be mentally tough enough to survive the pressure of New York. It seems the test was passed by Jones in that section. Jones could understand that New York fans are not necessarily booing him personally, but instead the apparently head-scratching series of decisions the front office has made, epitomized by his own selection in No. 6 total. That caveat doesn’t make it any easier for a human.
As for the idea that the door opened to a full-scale QB competition between Manning and Jones after training camp starts, the rookie told Eisen he hasn’t been told he could have a opportunity to start and downplayed the coach’s remarks.
«I really don’t know. I think everyone on the team is trying to prove that they can play,» Jones said. «And everyone would like to play. When trainer said that I feel that’s what any trainer does at any level in any sport. Like I said, it’s all of our goals to prove that we can play, veterans, newcomer, everybody would like to be on the area. We’ll see how it works out, but I’m excited to get just a small bit of time but I am excited to get back and get to work.»
