Rory McIlroy wants to end 2019 with five wins and world No 1 ranking

While he remains convinced of pursuing down Brooks Koepka at the top of the world rankings rory McIlroy is decided to finish 2019 using the trophy haul in a year of his own profession.
McIlroy headlines a field for this week’s BMW PGA Championship in May, and he has four events this season to satisfy his lofty goals, remaining, beginning with all the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland next week.
His success in the Tour Championship last month earned him his third title of the season, after his prior wins at The Players Championship and the RBC Canadian Open, and he thinks he can match the five successes he attained in 2014 – which comprised his maiden win in Wentworth.
When asked about his chances of regaining the world No 1 position for first time in four years, McIlroy said:»I do not know whether that’s realistic, but it is definitely to have closer. Where there’s a Good Deal of World Ranking things in China and Japan and Dubai in the end of the year, I have got an opportunity over the next few weeks.
«So my goal is to become closer, simply to attempt and keep progressing and get a few more wins. I feel as though I’m playing. Is five, so I’d love to equivalent that and try to better .
«So yeah, it is just keep moving and try not to allow my foot off the pedal and finish the year how I began it, on a very positive note. Then I will really enjoy the off-season, or whatever off-season we have at December and January, go and reset again.»
McIlroy admitted he had to»drag myself off the sofa» a week to arrive at some practice following a break after his play-off defeat in the Omega European Masters, which was his seventh occasion in a punishing eight-week program.
And he raised concerns regarding the calendar becoming congested next calendar year, with the Olympic Games in the Ryder Cup and Tokyo to take into account.
«It’s been quite tough, I’m not utilised to enjoying this much golfing at a short period of time,» he added. «You used to perform a few weeks on, take a couple weeks off, play another few weeks, but I think I played like 13 championships at a 16-week stretch.
«So it’s a great deal of golf, and it is something we’re going to need to get accustomed to. It’s the new program, everything and also The Ryder Cup else and particularly once you throw at the Olympics next year.
«It is going to become so congested in that center area of the whole year. That’s the reason why I needed those two weeks on the sofa, simply to kind of reset and also get myself in the right place emotionally to get motivated to move again for this little bit of the year»
McIlroy has mixed comments on the program that is new, with one major per month by the Experts in April through the Open in July, and there’s a gap of over 260 days before major golf yields at Augusta National.
«There’s so many diverse entities in the game and they are all pulling in various directions, and at a certain stage or another, something is not quite going to operate,» he explained. «Therefore I think that it’s how it’s for a short time.
«My only thing isI love the sport of golf and as a lover, I would really like to accompany along to get more than simply the five weeks a year the majors are in. Try and keep relevance there.
«But if you look at the manner like the NFL functions in the States, the Super Bowl is in February and they do not play their very first match again before September. Maybe that seven months of expectation to Augusta is a fantastic thing for the sport. Time will tell.»
